Virtual PEZ display
I have wanted to display my PEZ collection for a long time and decided the Internet is about as good as it is going to get for me due to lack of space at home right now. So, although I still have about ten storage boxes of PEZ squirrelled away I am starting today by putting up a few of my favorites. First off is a shot of most of my older pez together.
Next we have a few up close shots of my favorites that I have to date:
This is a vintage regular from the 1950's, the original PEZ dispenser designed by Haas. Originally he promoted PEZ as an adult candy - and as an alternative to smoking. From there the company quickly realized that PEZ was much more marketable if aimed towards kids and switched from this cigarette lighter shaped dispenser to the ones we are more used to seeing with cartoon heads.
Here is an up close shot of some of my PEZ pals - doctor, maharajah, sheik, pirate, policeman; as well as a few Indian chiefs and clowns. I am not sure why I am so stuck on the PEZ pals but I really like them a lot. They all have the same face with a number of holes in them and you can switch and mix up what they are wearing - hats, mustaches, etc.
PEZ to date has produced two "full bodied" dispensers. Santa is one of them, a robot (with lots of color variations) is the other. Santa is unique in shape, and looks more like a nut cracker then a PEZ, awesome.
Okay, the Cocoa-Marsh Spaceman PEZ - very unique, and a personal favorite. I like the color and detail, as well as the unique embossed stem. This PEZ was a great find, it is in mint condition, not bad since it was produced in the late 1950's.
Die-Cut PEZ, another unhealthy fixation of mine. There are five total that PEZ produced, all date from the 1960's. They include: Casper, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Easter Rabbit, and Bozo. So far I only have this Mickey with Minnie Die-Cut on the stem. Notice it is still in its original bag...nice. I managed to pick him up this past year at the PEZ convention in Linz, Austria.
Batman with cape - one of only a few older PEZ I can think of that came with accessories. The others, very hard to find complete, would be the Baseball Set that came with a ball, bat, and home plate in addition to the Mitt "head" PEZ dispenser; as well as the Make-A-Face PEZ, a sort of Mr. Potato Head PEZ dispenser that was immediately recalled when all the little pieces started choking kids.
Zorro PEZ, notice the stem embossed with the Zorro name. This PEZ draws the eye as the shape and unique details set it apart from the crowd.
Finally, for now, a rare piece I picked up at a convention auction - this is what is used at the PEZ factories as a mold to produce PEZ Dispensers, this in particular fabricated the stems. On the bottom you can see that this mold was used to make the "DBP" PEZ, which are rare variations as most PEZ are marked with a US patent number on the stem. DPB stands for "Deutches Bundes Patent" - the German patent, and is always followed by 818 829. The US patents vary, depending on the age of the dispenser. Oldest is a 2,620,061 while today's most current PEZ are 5,984,285.
